It has to be said that some of us prefer Gordon’s “book personality” to his television one, but this time the Great Escape series is fascinating in both mediums.

The book contains his pick of recipes from four different countries on his epic itinerary – Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia – but dishes from each are divided into sections on salads, soups, stir-fries, curries and so on, rather than separating them by country, which is useful.
