Win a copy of Marion: Recipes from a Hungry Cook

We're giving away two copies of Australian MasterChef favourite Marion Grasby's cookbook, Marion: Recipes and Stories from a Hungry Cook.

Marion learnt to cook Thai from her mother, a chef who grew up in a tiny village two hours west of Bangkok but raised her family in Australia.

Marion’s childhood in Darwin is packed with memories of visiting the markets with her mom, eating Thai noodles and bowls of laksa while her friends were tucking into pasta. Years later, MasterChef catapulted her into the public eye and gave her the chance she needed to write her own cookbook.

She retraced her heritage (she’s lived and travelled in the Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and Papua New Guinea) then travelled with her mother to Thailand to visit her grandmother who hadn’t seen her since she was four, 24 years ago. The experience was profoundly moving and certainly affected the fusion of recipes and menus in the book.

What shines through is Marion’s ebullient character with personal notes giving tips and tricks and guiding you all the way. The design of the book is fresh and fun with a combination of sketches, handwritten anecdotes and illustrations, giving it a zest and energy that hasn’t been seen

for a while.

Try her “Take me to Thailand for dinner” menu or “Surf, turf and tart”. Ingredients-wise, the book translates well, except for purple Congo potatoes. Let’s hope someone grows these beauties here soon!

To win a copy of Marion's cookbook, simply answer this easy question:

Robin Dowding from Port Elizabeth and Rachel Mattig from Durban.
